West Coast Student Leadership Conference 2025

26 Mar

On Monday 24 March Westland High School hosted the inaugural West Coast Student Leadership Conference.

51 student leaders from across the coast attended to network with fellow student leaders, to learn about leadership and to be inspired by guest speakers from Westland District Council (Ashley Cassin), Development West Coast (Zak Shaw) and Student Volunteer Army (Ariel Hodgson).

Students commented that it was “really good to see other students our age in leadership positions” and it “was very cool to meet like minded people.” A student mentioned that she “really enjoyed sitting at tables with people I didn’t know. We all just clicked. Shared ideas collectively.”

The conference aimed to equip Student Leaders with the skills, inspiration and connections they need to excel as leaders and create transformative change within their schools and communities. Students commented on how good it was to come together with other leaders to hear and share what is happening in the High Schools and Area Schools on the coast.

Guest speakers spoke about leadership through service, the experiential learning cycle and the power of leadership through action.

“We are delighted to have hosted the inaugural Student Leaders Conference here at Westland High School and to support and grow the capability of our student leaders here on the coast. The team did a great job of delivering the conference and we really appreciated the support of Development West Coast to enable events like these to take place.”
