Term 4 Alternative Programme
14 Nov
Most of our international students are not sitting their NCEA exams so they are participating in an alternative programme.
Grete, Clara, Richard and Hannah from Germany are enjoying a programme that focusses on manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga so some activities have a volunteer focus. The students have been doing some gardening around school, volunteering at Riding for the Disabled and participated in a beach clean up at Mananui.
They have also had the opportunity to go to Shantytown Heritage Park and enjoy gold panning, a train ride, and dressing up in old-time clothes. They learned about the early European settlers and gold mining and what life was like in the early days.
On Tuesday we visited the O’Reilly farm and fed the calves, moved some stock and learned about dairy farming on the West Coast.
Mr Waller took them for a session of maku making and Mr Talbot has included them in his Middle school outdoor education programme. They have been creating tote bags with Mrs Reeves, tye-dying with Ms Collins and practising their English writing skills with Mrs O’Malley.
Meanwhile Meggy has been sitting her NCEA exams and will join us in next week’s activities
