Level 1 Visual Arts

Pre-requisites:

Successful completion of at least two trimesters of Middle School Visual Arts over two years. However the main requirement will be a strong interest in art, determination, and a curious and creative mind.

Course description:

Students will develop their ability to generate, develop and refine visual ideas within a thematically based programme, using a range of art making conventions and techniques. Students will investigate relationships between the production of art works and their social context, investigate art and artists, and learn to identify and evaluate how art ideas and art making processes are used to communicate meaning.

Students are expected to develop a high degree of responsibility for their work and creative ideas during this course. They can select the option line for senior visual arts that best fits their timetable. There will be students learning at NCEA levels one, two and three in the same class. In term one, all senior art students will work together developing art works for their own community exhibition and to fundraise for a local cause. Students will develop a wide range of technical skills in this project, that will form the basis for individualised creative directions during the rest of the year.
