  • Airport meeting service at Hokitika Airport

Accommodation Fees:

The homestay fee includes a single bedroom (unless otherwise negotiated) containing a comfortable bed and all required bedding, as well as a desk, chair and lamp for private study.

The homestay fee covers all meals, although it should be noted that a higher fee may need to be negotiated if a student has additional dietary requirements (e.g, gluten-free, vegan). Personal items such as shampoo are at the student’s expense. All homestays have been visited and assessed by the WHS Homestay Co-ordinator, and all occupants within the home over 18 years of age have been police vetted.

Outdoor Education Fee:

The Outdoor Education course is optional and costs $150 per term of participation. Students intending to study Outdoor Education are advised to bring good quality outdoor clothing, and hiking boots.

Health & Travel Insurance:
Health and Travel Insurance for international students is a requirement of the New Zealand government. Westland High School prefers to arrange a Unicare Health & Travel Insurance policy that is compliant with the Code of Practice. This policy costs approximately $575 for one year. If a student elects not to purchase the standard Unicare policy, evidence of privately arranged medical and travel insurance  (in English) that is compliant with the Code of Practice must be demonstrated to the school prior to arrival.

NCEA Registration Fee:

If the student is entered in NCEA Exams, NZQA fees will apply. NZQA fees are set by the New Zealand government and cannot be altered by the school. NZQA fees are approximately $400 per year.

Depending on the courses chosen, general stationery may cost approximately $50. Specialist stationery requirements such as a graphics kit, calculators (including graphical), printing and photocopying costs will be in addition to this estimate.

Pocket Money Allowance:

We recommend $75.00 per week for day-to-day spending. The school is able to set up an automatic payment into the student’s New Zealand bank account on request.

Extra-curricular Activities:

We estimate that each student could spend around $1,000 annually on extra-curricular activities. This includes things like sports registration fees, team uniforms and trips, private music lessons or instrument hire, course-specific requirements, field trips and student camps. The school can hold a contingency fund on behalf of the student. Any unspent funds are returned to the student prior to departure.
