Friends of the School

Friends of Westland High School

Friends of Westland High School is a group of parents, staff and community members that are supporters of the school and its students. The group’s core aim is “Fostering relationships between our community and Westland High School. They work in conjunction with staff towards this aim.

One of the things that Friends of Westland High School has done recently is to help coordinate a number of lunchtime clubs at the school including sewing, dance, cross country training, maths, reading, knitting, yoga and creative coding.

It is hoped that the clubs will teach new skills and create friendships and relationships between the students and the wider community. The lunchtime clubs run for the two Winter terms.

If you have a skill that you would like to share with our students, get in touch with Clare Cosson or Kate Fleming via the school office.

The group meets every six weeks or so at the school library and is always keen to welcome anyone who would like to come along. Some of the recent topics discussed have been food options available to our students at the school Hi Cafe, helping to fund school notice boards for displaying students activities, the return of night classes, and bringing public speakers into the school and community.

The group will also be involved in supporting an upcoming school makeover project which will take place in term 3.

If you have some ideas about what you would like to see happening at the school or have some skills as a gardener, builder, painter, organiser, cleaner, or barbecue chef let us know and we would love to have you involved at this fun event.

New members are welcome. Contact Clare Cosson, Chairperson for more information at: riverlifenz@slingshot.co.nz
