Level 1 Music
Pre-requisites:
None, however, students should have instrumental skills equivalent to that of a student in their third year of group itinerant music lessons. Students with no instrumental background will struggle to gain credits in this course (note that voice is an instrument) Students must have their own instrument to practise on.
Course description:
At level one, students work towards a range of achievement standard based tasks that allow them to develop their practical music skills (ie. performing music, writing music, transcribing music), while they also build their analytical skills (ie. interpreting musical scores) and knowledge of musical styles (ie. researching music works) . Performing to an audience for assessments is expected.

AS91090 Perform two pieces of music as a featured soloist 6 credits
AS91091 Demonstrate ensemble skills through performing a piece of music as a member of a group 4 credits
AS91092 Compose two original pieces of music 6 credits
AS91093 Demonstrate aural and theoretical skills through transcription 4 credits (by arrangement with Dr. Shawcross)
AS91094 Demonstrate knowledge of conventions used in music scores 6 credits (by arrangement with Dr. Shawcross)
