Level 2 Chemistry

Pre-requisites:

12 credits for Level 1 Science A, which must include AS90944 and 90930.

Course description:

This course is aimed at developing critical scientific thinking skills and leads directly to Level 3 Chemistry, and is also a prerequisite for nursing and other medical sciences and most engineering courses at tertiary level

Topics covered:

Practical courses with practical internal assessments:

  • Qualitative chemistry — identifying ions in solution
  • Quantitative chemistry
  • Oxidation-reduction reactions

Theoretical courses that are externally assessed:

  • Looking at the bonding, structure and properties of substances, and energy of reactions
  • Properties of selected organic compounds
  • Chemical reactivity
