Tūhura tuarangi – Space roadshow

Otago Museum came to Westland High School and brought their Space roadshow with them!

Students this term got the opportunity to visit the Otago Museum, outreach program’s newest offering. The tūhura tuarangi space showcase which offered students the opportunity to look at how the sun, moon and earth move in relation to each other. 

Students created rockets and launched them, some as high as the roof! Other offerings included how heavy a meteorite an iron based meteorite feels, what space junk looks like and to see how satellites are changing the face of illegal fishing, whale conservation and deforestation world wide. 

 The showcase offered a snapshot of the many opportunities within New Zealand for on the ground training and support for students interested in space exploration.
