Rolling Teacher Strikes scheduled

The Board of Trustees has been informed that teachers at our school will be taking strike action over a number of days, however there has since been a cancellation to the scheduled rolling strike for Tuesday 11th.

Due to constructive progress being made the Year 10 rostering home planned for Tuesday 11 June is cancelled. So all year 10's are expected to be at school for normal timetabled classes. Below is a copy of the letter that was sent to all parents regarding the Strike action earlier in May with the amendment for Tuesday the 11th.

The Board of Trustees cannot provide teaching for students during the upcoming rolling strike.

The PPTA has advised Westland High School Board of Trustees that teachers at our school will be taking strike action on the below dates;

  • Tuesday 4th June for all Year 9’s. No timetabled classes for Year 9’s will run on this day.

  • Tuesday 11th all students expected at school for timetabled classes.

  • Tuesday 25th June for all Year 11’s. No timetabled classes for Year 11’s will run on this day.

  • Tuesday 2nd July for all Year 12’s. No timetabled classes for Year 12’s will run on this day.

Non-teaching staff supervision will be available for those students above who are unable to stay home.

In addition to the rolling strikes for Year levels, there are Regional strikes scheduled. The Board of Trustees has been informed that the Teachers on the West Coast will strike on Thursday 20th June 2019.

The Board has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff and unfortunately decided that we cannot provide normal teaching services during the strike. Westland High School will officially be closed for instruction on Thursday the 20th June 2019. Accordingly, it’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children during the period of the strike as no supervision can be provided. I know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern.

Thank you for your understanding. Please contact me or the school Principal, Mr Murray, if you have any questions relating to this decision.
