Westland High School

Community

Westland High School depends on it's strong links with the local community to offer the best opportunities to our students. School-community partnerships bring together critical resources and strategies to enhance caring communities that support all youth and their families and enable success at school and beyond.

There are many ways in which local families and businesses can help to support our school and it's students. This section of our website will be kept up to date with specific requests, or you may contact the school at any time if you would like to offer support.

Vietnam Trip Fundraiser

Large trailers of dry wood are now available for sale. Funds raised will go towards subsidising the students' Geography trip to Vietnam later in the year.

Only $80 per trailer delivered!

Host families needed

Each year there are hundreds of students from around the world who choose to visit New Zealand. You can be a part of the experience by welcoming an exchange student into your home.

Our students bring with them their own spending money, health insurance and a wonderful attitude and desire to learn about their new host country. Your whole family - and your relatives and friends - will grow and learn as you all get to know your new 'son' or 'daughter' from another land. If your family can offer a friendly, supportive and caring home environment, contact us today.

To hear more about this wonderful opportunity, or our student exchange programs out of New Zealand, log onto www.studentexchange.org.nz or call us on 0800 440 079.

Pounamu magazine sponsorship

Pounamu is our record of school activities in the community and a treasured keepsake for our departing students and their families to look back on in the future. The magazine is professionally printed and over 300 copies will be distributed to Westland High School staff, students and their families.

To subsidise the cost of producing this quality publication we are offering advertising space to local business and also offering families the chance to sponsor a page in the magazine.

You can click here to view the full list of advertising and sponsorship available. Applications close on November 9th.

Contact the school if you would like further information.

Gateway Placements

Gateway is a formal type of work experience in which students are assessed by Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) at their workplace. We are always looking for new businesses and industries for our students to gain experience in. If you would be willing to have a senior student placed in your business (for one day a week or more), please get in contact with our Gateway co-ordinator Anne Marie Greig.
