Principal's welcome

Ferg Harding, PrincipalIt is my pleasure to introduce you to Westland High School. Please take the time to look through our website so that we can have the opportunity of showing you a brief outline of why we are so proud of our school.

Being a smaller school allows us to provide some major advantages for our young people. We really believe we are “big enough to match the best, and small enough to care”. Our students enjoy the advantage of smaller classes and a friendly family like atmosphere where they are treated as individuals and their talents are recognised and built on. A recent Education Review Office visit confirmed that we are at
the cutting edge with our innovative curriculum programme at years 9 and 10. This is just one example of our timetable and subject range being driven by the needs of our pupils as well as the national curriculum.

We are proud of the strong links that have been built up through our history of positive interaction with parents, caregivers and the wider community we serve in our catchment area. We are a Community School and we encourage your participation in a variety of aspects of our wider school life.

Our staff are committed to excellence and to building on the relationships and rapport that exist between all sections of our school community. We are well resourced, our equipment level is high, and we have a reputation for outstanding performance in outdoor education, the arts and all other areas where students show a commitment to the learning opportunities provided.

Please feel free to come and visit our school, my door is always open for discussions with parents/ caregivers (arranging an interview time will ensure I am not otherwise committed and can give you my full attention), or telephone me if you require further information.

We look forward to being of service to your family in the years ahead.

Arohanui,
Ferg Harding
Principal
