Learning support

At the start of the school year students from year 7-10 are assessed for their literacy and numeracy skills. For those students who are significantly below where they are expected to be, we have a range of programmes available.

Students may be withdrawn from class up to four times a week for intensive literacy programme sessions. A student may be in a small reading group working on decoding and comprehension strategies, or they may be working on a computer programme, with very specific diagnostic assessments and strategies designed to upskill them in their particular area of need. We keep up to date with the latest programmes available and we have seen significant improvement with many of our students.

Some classes have a teacher aide with them to support students identified by the teacher.

At year 7-8 we consult with the Resource Teacher for Literacy and for some students from years 7-10 we also liaise with RTLB.

As students progress up the school in years 11-13 we have designated funds and resources for those students working to earn credits for their future beyond school. Some students with special learning needs may be referred for further assessment outside school, in order to secure the necessary help prior to taking exams and to ensure their needs are met for exam purposes.
