Westland High School

Proposed changes to lunchtime arrangements

Year 7 and 8 students to remain on school grounds at all times, including when alighting from the buses. Parent’s permission required to leave school at lunchtime. We have a duty of care for our youngest and most at-risk students. This part remains unchanged.

Year 9 and 10 students permitted to leave the grounds before school and at lunchtime to go to the local Stafford Street Store only. This would include students arriving on the buses. This freedom reflects a growing independence and freedom, but within some defined limits. Students may go home for lunch as with current arrangements. Currently year 9 and 10 students are to remain on the grounds at all times unless they go home for lunch.

Year 11-13 students permitted to leave the grounds as for years 9 and 10, but also have the option of going to Fitzherbert Street Store or to Porkies. Excursions into town should be open for year 13’s as a right, and to years 11 and 12 with good reason only. This also represents current practice.
