Gateway

Gateway is structured learning in the workplace combined with school-based learning.

Industries we have placed students in include:

  • Building
  • Early Childhood
  • Hospitality
  • Retail
  • Aviation
  • Automotive (Diesel)
  • Automotive (Spray painting)
  • Automotive (general)
  • Hairdressing
  • Agriculture
  • Tourism
  • Sport & Recreation

Why Choose Gateway?

Gateway provides an opportunity to make progress in gaining a qualification in a career of the student's choice. For some students it provides a stepping stone directly into a career of their choice (eg. students offered apprenticeships), for others it allows them the chance to check out a career, and for others it provides training in work that will give them a part time job while they attend tertiary training.

You choose to undertake Gateway in an option line, preferably one that has double periods scheduled, or at another time. You may take it in addition to your school programme, in the evening or weekends or school holidays. You will be expected to achieve some of the generic credits (ie. produce a CV, manage first aid, protect health & safety, etc) plus your industry credits.

Please note:

  • It is expected that you will complete the negotiated amount of unpaid work. Times and duration are flexible. Placements have range from 2 hours a week for two terms to a full day for the entire year. You may have more than one placement.
  • This is not a "soft" option. You will be expected to keep up to date with your school work, keep a log book, let the school and employer know if you are to be absent and achieve credits set by you and the Gateway coordinator.
  • You will be interviewed as part of the selection process.
  • The school, employer and you formalise the arrangement before you enter the workplace. You must have parental permission.

We have limited places available on this scheme and are looking for committed and motivated students who have a real desire to find out more about their future employment possibilities.

Pre-requisites: You must have a CV and achieved 20 school days being on time, in correct uniform etc. before starting the programme.

Who to contact: Mrs Yvonne Simpson or Mrs Anne Marie Greig
