Westland High School

The Arts / Nga Toi

The Arts are a vibrant and valued component of life at Westland High School. Students learn and communicate creatively with others through increasingly sophisticated forms of personal artistic expression. The ability to think creatively is a highly valued skill in the knowledge economy, both now and in the future. Students at Westland High School have access to skilled, committed and passionate teachers of the Arts who develop and run exciting curricular, co-curricular and cross-curricular arts programmes; giving students significant opportunities to be involved with and extend their knowledge, skills and experiences in the Arts.

Through the music department, students can access vocal tuition and learn a musical instrument. Music performance evenings for senior assessment showcase the wealth of student musical talent and ability at Westland High School. Senior photography classes enable students to become technically skilled in both traditional darkroom practice and contemporary methods of digital photography and digital image manipulation.

Students who complete senior courses in the arts find careers in performance, film, radio and television, publishing, teaching, advertising, design, art galleries, museums, professional photography and arts therapy, and can use skills acquired in the arts to complement other personal and professional interests.
